Founding the Associate Chapter

In January 2025, a new generation of Northwestern students began an undertaking that would ultimately restore one of Sigma Chi’s most historic chapters. More than a century and a half after the Omega Chapter was first established at Northwestern University, a small group of undergraduates gathered around a shared ambition: to build a brotherhood worthy of carrying its name once again.

The first members entered Sigma Chi’s Preparation for Brotherhood program in February 2025. The following month, undergraduate leadership formally passed into the hands of the students when Asher C. Moss was elected the first Consul of the Nu Associate Chapter, with Allen Gurvits serving as Pro Consul.

The first Consular administration was defined by institution-building. The young Associate Chapter adopted its first comprehensive bylaws, established executive, financial, and recruitment structures. The group strengthened relationships with Northwestern’s Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Interfraternity Council while working closely with Chapter Advisor Logan Morrison, Grand Praetor K. Parker Hess, the Sigma Chi Home Association, and representatives of the International Fraternity.

In the Spring of 2025, the chapter submitted its Declaration of Intent, formally expressing its determination to restore Omega. Although still in the earliest stages of the expansion process, the brothers were already conducting the work of a functioning chapter. That spirit—building first and earning recognition afterward—would come to characterize the Sigma Chi Nu Associate Chapter.

The path was not without uncertainty. During the summer of 2025, the chapter learned that changes in chartering and housing requirements could significantly lengthen the road ahead. The news prompted a period of serious reflection about the future of the expansion. In late July, the Brothers choose to continue anyway.

That choice became one of the defining moments of the Nu Associate Chapter. Rather than allow uncertainty to end the project, the members recommitted themselves to it. Leadership was reorganized, expectations increased, and every brother was challenged to take greater responsibility for the organization they were building.

Renewal and Growth

On September 2, 2025, Allen Gurvits was inaugurated as the second Consul of Sigma Chi Nu, with Curtis Roselle succeeding him as Pro Consul. Gurvits had already played an important role in the chapter’s earliest development, particularly in recruitment and internal operations. His Consular term came at a critical moment: the brothers had decided that Sigma Chi Nu would survive, and the task now was to translate that commitment into renewed growth.

Recruitment resumed that fall, the chapter rebuilt its internal structure, and a new pledge class joined the brotherhood. Gurvits’s contribution would extend well beyond his seven weeks as Consul. After leaving office, he continued serving the chapter as Magister and later again as Recruitment Chairman, helping recruit and educate many of the men who would eventually join him as Founding Fathers of the restored Omega Chapter.

On October 26, 2025, Curtis Roselle became the third and final Consul of the Nu Associate Chapter. Moss returned to the executive leadership as Pro Consul, while Gurvits assumed responsibility for pledge education. Under Roselle’s leadership, Sigma Chi Nu entered its great period of expansion.

Throughout the remainder of the 2025–2026 academic year, the Associate Chapter evolved from a small developing fraternity into a substantial campus organization. Recruitment expanded the brotherhood across Northwestern’s undergraduate classes, and by the spring of 2026 the chapter had grown t0 37 members.

The chapter’s institutions grew with it. Sigma Chi Nu introduced the White Cross Points program to recognize academic achievement, service, and engagement. Scholarship and recognition programs expanded. Community-service expectations were formalized, philanthropy increased, and the chapter launched nusigs.org to establish a permanent public presence.

The brothers also became increasingly visible across Northwestern. By the time of the chapter’s formal petition, every member reported involvement in organizations outside Sigma Chi, while roughly two-thirds of the brotherhood held leadership positions elsewhere on campus. Members collectively completed hundreds of hours of community service and developed relationships with organizations including the Evanston Animal Shelter and the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.

In April 2026, Northwestern’s Interfraternity Council recognized Sigma Chi as Emerging Chapter of the Year—an important acknowledgment of how far the brotherhood had come in little more than a year.
